    The Sorta Strawber-rita

    7/8/2016

Hope you're all having a beautiful summer Friday today!

To celebrate the beautiful weather we're having (and to try to escape from it a little bit) I've created a delicious blended strawberry cocktail. I call it The Sorta Strawber-rita because it's sorta like a strawberry margarita as in it's sweet, cold, and goes down easy, however the liquors in this drink are different.

So why not use this drink as an excuse to invite a friend over and try this sucker out for your selves?! (the recipe makes two drinks)

    Enjoy!

    THE SORTA STRAWBER-RITA

    Servings: 2

    Time: 3 minutes

    Difficulty: Easy

    INGREDIENTS

    • 8-10 Medium Sized Strawberries

    • 1.5 oz Grand Marnier

Today I have a black currant (Creme de Cassis) and rosewater cocktail for you. It's sweet, slightly tart, and floral. This would go really well with some nice cheese and a baguette out on the patio, or if you're in the southern hemisphere and it's wintertime, in front of a nice warm fire.

Have an awesome weekend ladies and gents!

    Spiked Caramel Lemonade

    5/27/2016

For all of you fellow Americans out there, it's Memorial Day weekend. This probably means hitting the beach, BBQs, and maybe a sale or two, which is why I've created a fun and refreshing cocktail you can enjoy all throughout your sunny 3-day weekend.

This week's Spiked Caramel Lemonade is summery and maybe a little too easy to drink (if ya know what I mean...).

    Let's get to it-

    What you'll need:

    1+1/2 c White Sugar

    1/4 c Light Brown Sugar

    1+1/2 c Lemon Juice

    2+1/4 c Warm Water, divided

    Peach Julep / Mezcal Julep

    5/6/2016

It's that time again... COCKTAIL TIME!

The Kentucky Derby is tomorrow, so today I present you with two takes on the classic Mint Julep... but there's a twist!

In honor of Mother's Day on Sunday, the first of these juleps is a little more grown up and feminine. I call that one the Kentucky Peach Julep.

The second julep I have for you is in honor of Cinco De Mayo (which was yesterday), my dad's birthday (which is today), and the Kentucky Derby (which is tomorrow). I call it the MexiCali Chrome. This julep's secret weapon ingredient is also one of my dad's favorites- Mezcal.

If you don't already know, the Mint Julep is the official drink...

    Coconut Caipirinha

    4/29/2016

    Happy Friday y’all!

I don’t know about you, but my watch says that it’s half past cocktail o’clock right now. (not really, but I wish it did…)

Before we get to the fun stuff, I’d like to bore you with a very short pronunciation and history lesson. The Caipirinha (pronounced “kai-pir-in-yuh”) is the national drink of Brazil and is traditionally made with lime, sugar, and cachaça (pronounced kuh-sha-suh). Cachaça is similar in taste to rum, and is sometimes known as ‘Brazilian Rum’, however the two are not exactly the same. Cachaça is made by distilling fresh sugar cane juice, while rum is made from molasses. Both are awesome, however the Caipirinha should be made wi...

    Kaffir Lime Drop

    4/22/2016

If a lemon drop, a margarita, and Thailand had a baby it would be this cocktail… and I’m ok with that.

For those of you who don’t know, a kaffir lime is a very bumpy/wrinkly variety of lime (see picture above) that is native to certain tropical regions of Asia. The kaffir tree also has unique double leaves that are commonly used in Thai cuisine due to their distinct taste and wonderful fragrance.

What makes this cocktail great is the use of kaffir simple syrup (recipe below). Though we have our own tree, I exclusively use the leaves in the syrup because they are much easier to come by than the limes and can be found in some ethnic m...

    Strawberry Basil Gin Smash

    4/15/2016

    Guess what?

That’s right, it’s Friday! Time for another original cocktail. Yipee!

Whether you’re having friends over for happy hour or just feel like a drink, this one should be it. It’s easy, the ingredients are in-season, and it’ll make even the gents feel classy. (I mean, it’s served in a coupe glass and we all know, coupe glass = classy.) Plus, I am positive you’ll love it even if you’re not a gin person.

The Strawberry Basil Gin Smash is a drink you’re going to want seconds of, so I’d recommend buying a whole punnet of strawberries. Enjoy!

    Satsuma Rosemary Splash

    4/1/2016

It's Friday; you deserve a cocktail. Why not treat yourself to an ultra refreshing and simple Satsuma Rosemary Splash? It's a drink made from a few in-season ingredients that's sure to please.

On my way home today I decided to swing past the market and noticed that satsuma mandarins were on sale. Growing up, tangerines were one of my favorites and always around the house when in season, so obviously my first thought upon seeing them was 'oooh, it's cocktail time'.  (my brain works in mysterious ways...)

This lightly sweet and vibrant cocktail will make you feel like a kid again (minus the whole alcohol thing...) and tastes best...
